Steampunk Goggles - Earhart by colormecrazi Steampunk Goggles - Earhart by colormecrazi
My goggles for my halloween costume. Im going as a steampunk amelia earhart. I MADE these goggles by hand! Using this lovely tutorial: [link]

Materials used:
leather purse purchased at goodwill: $3
old mens belt that was given to me by someone a long time ago but I can't remember: free
shoe clip rescued from the 'going to goodwill box':free
mason jar lids stolen from my mother: free
lambchop's leg (muhahahaha!): free

total cost: $3 dollars! heck yes! Well.. and a ridiculous amount of my last 2 days...

other photos of the goggles:

close up back angle: [link]
me wearing them over my eyes: [link]

EDIT:
I added a detail pic of the goggles on here because I think the paisley on the leather eye pieces are super cool and need to be seen!

Wanna see the rest of the costume?

Hello, there! I was just wondering if it's all right with you if I used this picture (well, actually, your face) as my avatar on tumblr for this Hetalia Steampunk roleplay forum. Is it all right if I do that as long as I give you credit?

Hi There!
I'm really sorry about the lack of response! I haven't been on deviant for so long. I saw go for it if you still wanted to use the image!

Were the mason jar lids that gold color, or more of a silver? And if they were silver, what did you use to color them?

I just used a hard clear plastic and painted it with glass paint.

This is really cool. I'm going to be making my first pair of goggles soon, and I've been looking through other people's attempts. This is one of the best I've seen! What did you use for lenses?

Wow, thanks very much!
For the lenses I took hard clear plastic from packaging for some electronic. I painted it with glass paint and then traced and cut out the circles just a tad too big. Then I glued the edges and set them inside the mason jar lids. Ahh not sure if that makes sense, but hopefully it helps you out somewhat! haha. good luck on your pair!

I really like the embroidered leather. That was off the purse, I assume?

In any case, nice choice.

It was from the purse. The most interesting thing was that I recently found the exact pattern on some really soft leathery fabric roll at goodwill. Def a good find! I'm glad your diggin it.

I wish our Hobby Lobby had some of that flourish-y design when I went looking for supplies! All they had is this rather flimsy leather (which actually didn't turn out too bad on them).

I might eventually, one day, make another pair for friends or something, and if I do, I'll try and hunt down some of the embroidered leather. It just looks so much nicer.
